Identification

Length 13 cm.

Dark cap, pale conical bill, black flank stripes, buff underparts, brown back.

Distribution

Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and north-eastern Tanzania.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.

Habitat

Dry acacia savanna.

Behaviour

These birds feed on the ground, sometimes in large flocks.

They nest colonially in acacia trees in large, untidy cone-shaped nests attached to slender twigs.
