Identification

Distribution

Primarily of Eastern Palearctic distribution with Black-throated Thrush being the western subspecies and Red-throated Thrush the eastern subspecies. Vagrants of both reach the Western Palearctic, with Black-throated being the commoner.

Taxonomy

Dark-throated Thrush occur in two subspecies, Turdus ruficollis ruficollis which is also known as Red-throated Thrush, and Turdus ruficollis atrogularis which is known as Black-throated Thrush. These two forms are considered different species by some authorities (Howard and Moore), but not others (Clements up to 6th edition).
