Cana (Darien National Park) - BirdForum Opus

The biological station of Cana in the Darien National Park of Panama would surely rate as one of the best remote birding locations in the world. In a one week visit we saw 275 species on foot from the station including daily observations of 4 species of Macaw. There are a good number of endemics such as Pierre Warbler and Bush-tanager as well as Beautiful Tree Runner and Rufous-cheeked (Pierre) Hummingbird. Arrangements with a company such as Ancon Expeditions must be made well ahead of time for the flight and stay at Cana.

Climate here is very warm but temporate up on the mountain camp on Cerro Pierre. The view from the camp at Cerro Pierre is unfogetable, miles of uncut tropical forest extending to the horizon at the next mountain range. Content and images originally posted by Phaethon
