- Herpsilochmus atricapillus
Identification
12cm. Male - black crown, white supercilium, black line behind the eye, grey back is grey, white wing-bars, black wings, greyish below, whitish belly, black tail with broad white tips.
Female - white streaked crown, generally more buffy and ochraceous than the male.
Distribution
Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay.
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
Habitat
Dry or moist lowland forests, up to 1,100m.
Behaviour
The diet includes insects and other arthropods.
They are monogamous; 2 eggs are laid and both parents share incubation and care of nestlings and fledglings.
