Identification
Brownish upperparts, yellowish-green underparts, and a rufous mohawk crest from the front through the crown and down upper nape.
Similar Species
Yellow-breasted Brush-Finch and Gray-eared Brush-Finch
Distribution
Found in Bolivia and extreme southern Peru.
Taxonomy
Previously considered conspecific with the Yellow-breasted Brush Finch (A. latinuchus) under the name Rufous-naped Brush-Finch.
Subspecies[1]
- A. r. rufinucha:
- Subtropical Andes of western Bolivia (La Paz and Cochabamba)
- A. r. carrikeri :
- Andes of eastern Bolivia (Santa Cruz)
Habitat
Cloud Forest and other montane woodlands including second growth, especially at borders. May even utilize open areas sometimes.
Behaviour
Should occur part of the time as part of mixed species flocks.
