Identification

Male - all black, white belly, yellow bill and cere. Female - extensive barring on upperparts, rufous chest and belly, bright red legs.

Distribution

Southern Brazil, Paraguay, eastern Bolivia, and extreme northeast Argentina.

Taxonomy

There are 4 subspecies

  • C. f. fasciolata
  • C. f. grayi
  • C. f. xavieri
  • C. f. pinima

Habitat

Humid forest and at the edges of woodland.

Behaviour

The diet includes seeds, flowers and fruit that have fallen to the ground.

At night they often roost in trees.
