Melanoperdix nigra

Identification

27cm. Male - glossy black plumage, thick black bill, grey legs, dark brown iris. Female - chestnut-brown, whitish throat and belly, dark horn-coloured bill. The female is smaller than the male.

Distribution

Malaysia, Borneo and Sumatra.

Taxonomy

There are 2 subspecies

  • M n niger
  • M n borneensis

Habitat

Lowland rainforests.

Behaviour

5-6 white eggs are laid.
