Identification

Golden band extends from the sides of head across crown; extensive dull chestnut-brown belly.

Distribution

Peru and Bolivia

Taxonomy

Habitat

Uncommon in elfin forest and humid forest edge along east slope of Andes (but apparently absent from Apurimac Valley), 2900 - 3700m, locally down to 2500m. Found in under- and midstory of shrubs and trees in treeline forest, or in isolated woodlots in grassland near treeline.

Behaviour

Song: a high, wheedling series of weak, thin notes. Calls include a high "tsik."
