Identification
Male: bright azure-blue above with green crown, orange breast shading to yellow on the belly. Female: grey-green above with tinges of blue on wings and tail, pale yellow below. Both have yellow eye-ring.
Distribution
Endemic to the Pacific slope of Mexico.
Taxonomy
Polytypic. Consists of two subspecies: P. l. grandior and P. l. leclancherii.
Habitat
Tropical dry brushy hillsides, open scrubby woods and woodland borders, hedgerows and partial clearings. Common in inhabited ares in the countryside.
Behaviour
Frequently seen around dwellings, foraging on the ground for seeds.
