- Vermivora peregrina
Identification
10-13cm. Brown above, green back, white underparts, grey crown and nape, white supercilium and black eye stripe. Females are duller, with a less contrasted head and yellow-tinged under-parts.
Distribution
Canada and the northern USA, winters in southern Central America.
Taxonomy
Habitat
Breeding habitat is coniferous or mixed woodlands, bogs and swamps, especially spruce forest edges. In migration can be found in almost any woodlands, orchards, and town parks.
Behaviour
The diet includes nectar which is obtained by piercing the base of the flower, insects and berries.
They nest on the ground; 4-7 eggs are laid in a cup nest.
