The black mamo was only found Moloka'i, from 1893-1907.  It became extinct very early in the 20th century.  They were also known as Hoa, in imitation of their call, or as 'O'o Nuku Umu.  The black mamo were approachable birds of the understory, and very aggressively displaced all other species except 'o'o from choice flowers.

Extinct.

Distribution
