Identification
Length 13-14cm (5-5½in)
A fairly pale, plain-backed Cisticola that is best identified by its song.
Similar species
Red-faced Cisticola, Chattering Cisticola and Whistling Cisticola.
Distribution
Africa: found in coastal Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Congo.
Taxonomy
Cisticola bulliens has two subspecies:[1]
- C. b. septentrionalis
- Cabinda and lower Congo River to northern Angola
- C. b. bulliens
- Coastal southern Angola
Habitat
Dry lowland grassland and savanna, and marshes.
Behaviour
Vocalisation
The call is similar to that of the Rattling Cisticola, a loud chee chee chrrrrr.
Breeding
The female builds a nest in grasses, from leaves and cobwebs.
