Distribution
Australia: found in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- H. p. pyrrhopygia:
- South-eastern Australia (extreme south-eastern Queensland to south-eastern South Australia)
- H. p. parkeri:
- Mount Lofty Range (South Australia)
- H. p. pedleri:
- Southern Flinders Ranges (South Australia)
Habitat
Woodlands and heathland with dense shrub and vegetation, rocky habitats.
Behaviour
Breeding
Its nest is domed shaped.
Diet
Its diet includes mainly insects, with some seeds and spiders.
