Simeulue Parrot was formerly included in Blue-rumped Parrot.

Clements recognizes these subspecies[1]:
- P. c. cyanurus: Southern Thailand to southern Tennasserim in southern Myanmar, Peninsula Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra and Borneo
- P. c. pontius: Mentawi Island (Siberut, Sipura, North Pagai and South Pagai)
