Asthenes pudibunda

Identification

  • Brown upperparts
  • Pale grey underparts
  • Greyish head
  • Whitish supercilium
  • Orange or whitish throat patch
  • Rufous wings, lower flanks and tail

Distribution

South America: found in Peru and Chile.

Taxonomy

Subspecies[1]

There are 2 subspecies:

  • A. p. neglecta:
  • Andes of western Peru (Ancash)
  • A. p. pudibunda:
  • Polylepis zone of Peru (La Libertad to Tacna)

An additional subspecies grisior is not recognised by all authorities[2].

Habitat

High-altitude shrubland at heights around 2,400 and 3,700 m asl.

Behaviour

Spends most of its time within the scrub or on the ground beneath it.

Voice

Trilling song of about 3 seconds duration first increases in pitch and decreases at the end.
