Distribution

South America: found in Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Considered a subspecies of Austral Negrito by some authors[2]

Habitat

Montane lakes, streams and marshes. Observed at heights around 4,090 m.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists almost entirely of small insects.

Breeding

Male displays but fluttering up to about 15 m. The nest is an open cup, similar to that of Austral Negrito.
