Identification
15–16·5 cm (6-6½ in)
- Almost entirely black plumage
- Long tail
Distribution
South-east Asia: found in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
Taxonomy
Formerly placed in genus Monarcha.
Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- S. a. axillaris:
- North-western New Guinea (Arfak, Weyland and Wandammen mountains)
- S. a. fallax:
- Mountains of south-eastern New Guinea and Goodenough Island
Habitat
Keeps to shady areas of moist lowland forests and montanes.
Behaviour
Diet
Little is recorded about their diet, which includes small-medium invertebrates such as beetles.
