Identification
Male 29 cm (11½ in); female 27 cm (10½ in)
Male
- Pure white overall plumage
- Turquoise bare area round the eye, and large throat patch
- Bare throat has narrow black bristles.
Female: smaller, olive upperparts, blackish head and black throat, pale yellow underparts with broad olive streaks.
Distribution
South America: found from south-eastern Brazil (Alagoas) to eastern Paraguay and north-eastern Argentina (Misiones)
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Canopy and borders of Atlantic Rain Forest.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet consists of a wide variety of fruit.
Breeding
They build a shallow nest on open branches for the 1 or 2 eggs, which are oval and reddish brown, with dark spots at the rounder end. Females care for the young alone.
Vocalisation
A loud bell noise
