Identification
Distribution
Albertine Rift Mountains of eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, western Burundi, western Rwanda, and western Uganda.
Taxonomy
This species was recently moved from genus Musophaga to genus Ruwenzorornis.
Some authors place it in genus Gallirex.
Subspecies
Ruwenzorornis johnstoni has three subspecies[1]:
- R. j. johnstoni:
- Rwenzori Mountains (northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and southwestern Uganda)
- R. j. bredoi:
- Mt. Kabobo (eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo)
- R. j. kivuensis:
Habitat
Montane forest and associated secondary growth.
Behaviour
The Ruwenzori Turaco feeds on fruit. It is usually found in pairs, but groups congregate in fruiting trees.
