Identification

Male
- Brown overall plumage
- Red-head, neck, and breast
- Dark brown back, wings, and tail with buff streaks
Female): mostly yellow.
Simimlar Species
Red Fody, which is an introduced species.
Distribution
Mauritius Island (endemic) Now only found on Ile aux Aigrettes Nature Reserve

They are found in what remains of native forests, also degraded forests with non-native species.
Behaviour

Their main diet consists of insects, such as grasshoppers, beetle larvae, caterpillars and spiders. They also seem to eat some nectar and fruit.
