Juvenile: white face, reddish-brown bill
Distribution
Indonesia: found only in Java.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 2 or 3 subspecies depending on the authority[1]:
- A. j. javanica:
- Mountains of western Java
- A. j. bartelsi:
- Mountains of west-central Java
- A. j. lawuana:
- Mountains of east-central Java
bartelsi is not recognised by all authorities and is generally considered invalid[2].
Habitat
Hill and mountain forests.
Behaviour
The male builds a domed nest from long grasses. The clutch consists of 4 eggs.
