Identification
Length 12 cm. Dark grey above. White below. Relatively short tail for an Apalis.
Distribution
Tropical Africa: Nigeria to Uganda, Tanzania and Angola.
Taxonomy
Apalis rufogularis has six subspecies:[2]
- A. r. sanderi
- South-western Nigeria
- A. r. rufogularis
- Eastern Nigeria to Cameroon, Gabon, Central African Republic and the island of Bioko
- A. r. angolensis
- North-western Angola
- A. r. brauni
- Western Angola
- A. r. nigrescens
- Extreme southwestern South Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, western Kenya, and extreme northwestern Tanzania south to extreme northeastern Angola, and northwestern Zambia
- A. r. kigezi
- South-western Uganda
Kungwe Apalis was formerly included in this species.
Habitat
Forest.
Behaviour
Tends to stay well hidden.
