Africa
Western Africa: Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola
Eastern Africa: South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- B. s. syndactylus:
- Sierra Leone to Gabon, north-western Angola, western Zaire and Zambia
- B. s. woosnami:
- Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, southern South Sudan, Uganda, and western Kenya to northern Angola and extreme northwestern Zambia
- B. s. nandensis:
- Western Kenya (Nandi Hills)
An additional subspecies multicolor is generally considered invalid[2].
Habitat
Lowland moist montane forests and moist shrubland.
Behaviour
A shy bird.
Diet
Their diet includes ants.
