The species Amsterdam Duck is extinct. |
- Amsterdam Island Wigeon
Identification
The species is only known from bones. In 1793 the presence of a small brown duck on the island was mentioned by explorer John Barrow, but it is uncertain if this referred to this species or not. If that was indeed the Amsterdam Island Wigeon, then it was a small brown duck.
Distribution
Amsterdam Island in the French Southern Territories but now extinct.
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
Habitat
Small freshwater pools and lakes.
Behaviour
Flightless.
