South-east Asia: Indonesia, Moluccas, Papua New Guinea
Taxonomy
Formerly placed in genus Monarcha.
Subspecies
There are 9 subspecies[1]:
- C. c. aurantiacus: Northern New Guinea (Geelvink to Astrolabe Bay and Ramu River)
- C. c. melanonotus : North-western New Guinea and western Papuan islands
- C. c. kordensis: Biak and Misool islands (New Guinea)
- C. c. nitidus: Eastern and south-eastern New Guinea and Louisiade Archipelago
- C. c. aruensis: Southern New Guinea and Aru Islands
- C. c. pulcherrimus: Dyaul I. (Bismarck Archipelago)
- C. c. chrysomela: Bismarck Archipelago (New Hanover and New Ireland)
- C. c. whitneyorum: Lihir Group (Bismarck Archipelago)
- C. c. tabarensis: Tabar Group (Bismarck Archipelago)
