Male
- Black mantle
- Greyish-blue head and rump
- Blue forehead and crown
- Greyish-olive underparts
- Greenish-yellow thighs and under tail-coverts
- Bluish-black upperparts
- Blue lower back and upper tail-coverts
- Red sides of body and wing-coverts
- Green wings and greater wing-coverts
- Upperside of tail greenish-yellow and underside yellow
- Red upper mandible
- Brownish-black lower mandible
- Light yellow iris
- Grey feet
Female
- Greyish-brown head
- Olive yellow ear-coverts
- Green back, lower back and upper tail-coverts
- Bluish patch on lower back
- Yellowish-green breast and abdomen
- Green outer under wing-coverts
- Both mandibles are brown-blackish
Immature - like female, green head is green; young males have bluish tinge to forehead; under wing-coverts partially red. The irises are greyish-yellow.
Distribution
Southeast Asia: found in Indochina, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Malay Peninsula, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, Greater Sundas and Sumatra

Habitat

Behaviour
The diet includes seeds, fruit and blossoms.
