Distribution
South-east Asia, Australasia: found in the Lesser Sundas, northern coast of Australia, and southern New Guinea.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are eleven subspecies[1]:
- R. d. celebensis:
- Tanahjampea and Lalao islands (Flores Sea)
- R. d. mimosae:
- Kalaotoa Island (Flores Sea)
- R. d. sumbaensis:
- Sumba (Lesser Sundas)
- R. d. semicollaris:
- Flores to Timor and adjacent Lesser Sundas
- R. d. elegantula:
- Eastern Lesser Sundas (Leti, Moa, Romang and Damar)
- R. d. reichenowi:
- Babar Island (eastern Lesser Sundas)
- R. d. hamadryas :
- Tanimbar Islands (Arafura Sea)
- R. d. squamata:
- Banda, Seram Laut, Tayandu Island and Kai Island
- R. d. henrici:
- Aru Islands
- R. d. streptophora:
- Southern New Guinea
- R. d. dryas:
- Coastal northern Australia (Kimberley to western Cape York Peninsula)
R. d. henrici is thought to be a subspecies of R. d. squamata by some authors[2]
