Asia, east and north to China and the Altay Mountains in Mongolia.

Taxonomy

• Sayan and Altai Mountains to north-western Himalayas; winters to south-eastern Asia

• P. h. mandellii:

• Southern Tibet to Sikkim, Myanmar and south-western China; winters to northern Thailand

Split from Yellow Warbler, Phylloscopus inornatus
