Identification
Black head, neck and breast, blue spotting on crown, dull blue shoulders and rump, grey-cream underparts, white tipped brighter blue tail and wing primaries, bright orange-red bill, legs, feet and eye ring.
Distribution
China, Vietnam, Laos, Burma and Himalayas.

There are 5 subspecies. Urocissa erythrorhyncha brevivexilla SW Manchuria and n China
Urocissa erythrorhyncha erythrorhyncha Central China to s Yunnan, n Laos and n Vietnam
Urocissa erythrorhyncha alticola SW China (n Yunnan) and ne Myanmar
Urocissa erythrorhyncha occipitalis Himalayas (Punjab to Sikkim)
Urocissa erythrorhyncha magnirostris Hills of Assam to Indochina
Habitat
Evergreen forest and scrub, hilly or mountainous country.
Behaviour
The diet includes invertebrates, small animals, fruit and seeds. It takes eggs and chicks from nests.
