Identification

Brown upperparts, reddish underneath in breeding plumage, black and white barred pattern on tail, dark legs and a long straight dark bill. The winter plumage is largely grey.

Distribution

Breeds in Siberia and Manchuria; winters to southern Asia and northern Australia.
