- Anthus nyassae
Identification
16-18cm. Warm brown upperparts with dark streaks, pale underparts with some streaking on the breast, dark eyestripe, white supercilium and pale outer tail-feathers. Juveniles have dark spots above and have more streaking below than the adults.
Distribution
South-east Gabon, southern and western Tanzania, north-east Namibia, northern Botswana, Zimbabwe and north-west Mozambique.
Taxonomy
At least three subspecies are recognised: nyassae, frondicolus and schoutedeni. Some authors recognize a fourth subspecies, chersophilus.
Habitat
Miombo woodland.
Behaviour
The diet includes invertebrates, ants, termites and beetles.
