Anyone tell me about these. There green rubber armored individual focus. Are the p-coated. What's their fov? What's the glass like, are they as good as a Leica 8x32 Bn trinovid. Thanks.

I think you mean the 'Safari' model. If so, I have tried a few - robust and good to add to a collection but not up to today's standards optically.

The individual focus makes them tricky and clumsy in the field.

What James Holdsworth said is accurate. Not up to today's standards optically, but still decent. If one wants a no nonsense binocular capable of enduring unintentional abuse, light weight (21 oz) accommodating eye glass wearers, compact, water proof, and having highly protective covers, in my experience there are none superior.

A birding glass it is not. However, it will pinch hit if asked occasionally to look at birds. When P coating began (1988), the Safari was included in the Zeiss line. It gives a smidgen of improvement over the pre-P coating generation. You could loan this to your brother-in-law and not worry. Like any binocular made or to be made, abusing the lens is the one thing to avoid. Celestron made a clone which is comparable as did Nikon. These are hard to find.

I used one for hunting in the woods a couple of times. The individual focus was somewhat bothersome as I also tried to look at the wood peckers at the same time.

I concur with all of the above on the view. Good but not up to modern day standards.

They look good. Definitely go well with a camo outfit.

I agree with pretty much everything said but I would like to add that they have a yellowish view that is sharp to disappointing 55-60% of the FOV. Even though they fall short of modern binoculars I really really like mine for their small size and light weight, toughness, open bridge design, extremely thick armor that is great in the cold, and deep depth of field. Out here in the West I use them for hunting and middle of winter birding when everything is far away. They also control stray light extremely well.

After 25+ years of use, the outside was buggered but the internals were extremely clean and collimation was still spot on. Zeiss fully rebuilt my Dialyt with new armor and lenses in 2012 for a reasonable charge.

My understanding is that the majority of the models have a special hard coating in lieu of T* coating. However, there are exceedingly rare newer models that are phase coated and some even have a range finding reciticle. Several years ago a pair of the phase coated model came on astromart for 1200.00.
