Yellow Warbler in Florida? (1 Viewer)

Hi, I'm new to the forums. I'm getting ready to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count 18-21 Feb 2011 and downloaded a list of birds found in my area (near Pensacola, FL). I did not see this little yellow bird on the list. I do not think it's a male American Goldfinch. When I logged onto this site I immediately saw a photo of a Yellow Warbler. The map shows that this part of Florida is in its migration route which explains why I have never seen this bird in years past. Is this a Yellow Warbler? And, if so, if it male or female? Thanks so much for your help!

Welcome to the forum! Your bird is a Pine Warbler. Some individual males can be quite bright yellow. Note the wingbars, which, among other features, rule out Yellow Warbler.

Best,
Jim

Thank you so much! Yes, I see the winter area of the Pine Warbler smacks my area of Florida. Now that 2-3 of them have found my feeder maybe I'll attract more in months to come.

When one or two Pine Warblers come to feed I usually see this single bird with them, but it looks like they fly off in different directions. They're both yellow, but I think this one's a female American Goldfinch. Am I correct?
