We always put bird seed in the trees in our yard and like to watch the different kinds of birds that we get every year but this is the first time seeing one like this and we were just wondering what it was?

This would be an American Goldfinch (male)

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum :t:

Thank you! All of the websites I've just looked at says that they only live in southern Newfoundland but I'm up on the Northern Peninsula. Is it normal for them to be in this area of the island?

Also, what is the little bird behind it? We see them all the time but we don't really know what they are, haha.

Welcome to BirdForum.

The little bird behind the goldfinch is a female Purple Finch, which is actually somewhat longer/larger than the goldfinch.

Not sure if this picture is of the same type of bird. Looks to be but there are a few out there that look pretty similar. Also attached a picture of a pretty red one that we would like to ID. Thanks for all the help everyone :).

The pretty red one is a Male Purple Finch, think picture one of last post is the Female Purple Finch.
Oh, welcome to the forum from the staff and moderators.
