Window Feeders - Siting and general (1 Viewer)

Having had some unwanted visitors on our bird table we have bought a window feeder, figuring that 4 legged creatures cannot climb the glass!

However, where is the best place to put it? We normally watch the birds feeding from our kitchen which has a big window but it's also a big room and is quite busy throughout the day. Would birds be put off if there was constant movement behind the glass?

We also have a conservatory but I'm weary of attracting birds towards it in case they try to fly through it - this has only happened once in 2 years (It was a thrush, they seem to be victims of this quite a lot as we've found many dead thrushes under our windows, we've now fitted blinds but the conservatory is 'open').

Any advice?

Also, what are we likely to attract? We used to have Robins visiting but after putting food on the ground we attracted rats and we don't have time to go out every day to food down and clean it up again. It'd be nice to have them back (The Robins that is!)

Thanks.

Now that I have my feeding station outside my kitchen window, I can say that some birds care, while others don't. The cardinal will not come to the feeder if I am in the window. He will sit in the tree and call until I move out of view. But there are some very aggressive house finches who could care less!! I do have sheers, though, and it sounds like you have just a big glass window, which might be too close for comfort for most birds. I think you just have to experiment with it and see how it goes. Perhaps they will become accustomed.
