Why do owls whistle? (1 Viewer)

Hi, we have a tawny owl that uses our roof as a scouting post for mice or other prey. Sometimes at night we can hear the owl right outside our bedroom window whistling, not calling, the sound is very strong and persistent for a few moments, then silence. Has anyone else experienced this is and does anyone know why the owl does it? Thanks, Blackie.

Not sure if that helps, but juvenile long-eared owls give out very piercing whistles. The end of April might seem to be too early in the year for them; however, please check out XC237385.
