White Woodpigeon? (1 Viewer)

Hi Folks,

I enjoy feeding the birds in my small garden in Wolverhampton where I get the usual suspects in garden birds including a number of woodpigeons and collared doves. A couple of times recently, we've had a visit from what appears to be a woodpigeon in size, behaviour, eye and beak colouring, expect that it is almost entirely white with just a few of the grey coloured feathers on its back. Is this some sort of albino or white woodpigeon? I've never seen one of these before and a search on the net has produced only the occasional mention.

I've considered that this could be some sort of feral pigeon but it does appear to be much bigger than the other feral pigeons in the area.

Cheers,
Mark.

It sounds like a partial albino, if it shows all the other signs of being a woodpigeon, that's probably what it is. A full albino would have pink eyes, and be 100% white, but partial albinos happen fairly regularly in birds.

If you can post a photo here, someone will probably tell you for sure.

Partial albinos are uniquely identifiable.. someone might even recognize "your" bird from somewhere else!

Thanks for the reply. I haven't seen the bird since, so either he has moved on on one of the local sparrowhawks liked the look of him. :eek!:
