Where are Conquests made (1 Viewer)

So there has been a lot of back and forth here about where Conquests are actually made. I reached out to a former Zeiss executive and here is what he told me. Conquests are 90% made in Japan. Then they are shipped to Germany where the focus wheel is put on and QC is done. This complies with the EUs rule that only 10% percent of the work needs to be done in that Germany for Zeiss to claim Made in Germany. Recently the EU has required more the work to be done in an EU country to be claimed to be built there.

Lee mentioned in an SFL thread that the top management has changed at Zeiss and perhaps they’ve decided to become more transparent about where their binos are really made. The former executive said the same thing. Thus the designed by Zeiss instead of Made in Germany. Also perhaps they need to due to the rule change. Will be interesting to see if newly manufactured Conquests will also say designed by Zeiss.

So no need to argue about this topic anymore. Seems like there are plenty of other arguments here at the moment lol!

Another thought from my friend

“One more point to think about… when purchasing or outsourcing from Japan, these companies are outsourcing their work to lower cost countries, so you don’t know where anything is really coming from. You buy a product that is marked “Made in Germany”, that is 90% actually comes from Japan. But the Japan supplier outsources their work, lenses and sun assemblies to a country that has labor 1/2 of Japan.

We live in a Global Sourcing Network. “Made in…” only carries any real value if “made in the USA” is on it.

Our USA regulations are the toughest in the world “… all or substantially all of the parts, components and labor value must originate in the USA”. “

Whoever moved it plz move it back. I intentionally put it in the general section.
The primary subject of the opening post is Zeiss Conquest HD. Birdforum has a forum dedicated to Zeiss topics so this is where the post will remain.
