Hi Bob
It really depends on where you intend to put your trap out.If it's in your garden and you have nice neighbours, then you can't really beat a 125w MV lamp, these run bright and would be annoying to some people with houses nearby,if neighbours are a problem then an actinic or blacklight bulb would be more suitable.
The 125w Mercury Vapour lamps usually attract more moths than the actinic or blacklight bulbs but not always.

Regards

Damian

Thanks Damian,
No neighbours to worry about so the 125w will be OK,does it only attract more moths than the other bulbs at certain times of the year or some other reason??

The brighter the bulb, the more moths is our experience. I used to use a 200w bulb for my home-made garden trap (it really wasn't a problem for the neighbours), but now have an 80w bulb in a commercial trap and it's not quite as effective. We also ran a 12v actinic bulb with a battery and that was even less effective at attracting moths.

Thanks Steve/Paul,
The only thing for it is to get the 125w and the Black bulb and try both and see which is the best in this area;I know I will have some fun trying anyway as I have'nt done anything like this before.
Thanks again to everyone for the info it's greatly appreciated.

In my opinion 125W MV bulbs are the best. Recently however there has been much talk about the Black Bulb being more effective. A number of my friends are supporting this claim as well. I'll be trying them soon as soon as i've ordered some.

Paul:Thanks for the link, I had already emailed Paul Batty on the subject yesterday, and as always he was really helpful as I am a bit out on a limb here for supplies.
Thanks again
