Many of these birds had a pale iris.I have never identified a Rusty Blackbird before and wonder if that is what these are- or are they just another bird in different plumage?-sorry about the crummy pics-thanks
The short tail rules out any of the grackles and the pale eye leaves only Brewer's and Rusty Blackbirds. On distribution alone we could say they were Rusty's, but the strong supercillium in the first and last photos prove this beyond doubt - Rusty Blackbird.
Hey Larry - agree on Rusties - even in the winter they're not the easiest to find in CT - you should report the location and date to CT-Daily.
I don't know how far north you are, but if you're interested in seeing more this coming season, Edgewood Park in (believe it or not) New Haven can be good. The park is right in between downtown and a residential area - surprising, but sadly, where else is there?
