What is the Best type feeder for White Millet (1 Viewer)

I been told to use White Millet only, to attract the Painted Buntings and the Indigo's to my yard. So, I ordered and received my White Millet, but if I spread it out on the ground like chicken feed, the squirrles devour it before any birds can get to it. I really thought the squirrles would not like it. Wrong, they eat everything! So, I hope the Buntings will come to a feeder. Any suggestions on which one to use. Thanks

Personally, I would get an inexpensive smallish one, like the Perky Pet Gazebo. I wouldn't get a tube feeder, only because you have to constantly refill them, even if they still have plenty of seed in them, when the seed level dips below the holes. I know, that's the kind of problem you're hoping for, right? :'D

You'd really be surprised at the variety of birds that flock to it -- more so than the expensive one I got for Christmas! and it even has better food in it!

Just be sure to reinforce the hanging wire and loop with garden wire -- in case of squirrrels and flocks of heavier birds.

You know, the only painted bunting I have ever seen in person was in downtown Miami. Unfortunately, it was dead, having flown into one of my office building's windows. But it was such a beautiful thing.... I wish I could see another. Good luck!!

I will have to look that one up. I have only had them in my yard once last Oct. (after hurricanes) I know they are in the area. Because in Fort Pierce, which is about 20 miles from here, the Hackberry Hammock nursery has (get this) hundreds of them visit their feeders. I talked to Jim, the owner over the phone and he is the one who told me about the white millet. I just hate to call him back to keep asking questions. I only want to borrow a few to feed in my back yard! LOL

the ground! Thats where I sprinkle my millet and I have over 50 Chipping Sparrows feeding on mine. A tray feeder works really well too especially for the buntings and if you mix some safflower in you may get a grosbeak during migration.
