Can anyone tell me what Birds of Prey including Owls I may bump into this week along the North devon coast or inland in Exmoor?

Cheers,

Paul.

Common Buzzards and more Common Buzzards and oh yes Common Buzzards!!

I saw lots of them I stopped to look at a field of gulls and found one perched in a tree!!

Yeah, plenty of Buzzards, along with Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and Peregrine.

You may be lucky and get one of the rarer Raptors such as Merlin, Harrier or Short eared Owl.
Depends on the weather really, enjoy the trip.

Common Buzzards should be pretty much everywhere....what about Bursdon Moor for Hen Harrier and possible Merlin (not been for a while - someone local can let you know what the score is this year...)

Hi All,

Had a lovely weekend staying in Croyde. It rained going down, and rained coming back but the weekend was smashing and sunny with the single short shower resulting in a double rainbow.

The picture is of my daughter, and she's as cheeky as her chubby cheeks are pinchable. She enjoyed the following on my back from the papoos.

Birdwise had some close views of Kestrels and Buzzards. Especially the male Kestrel that was sitting on telephone line waiting for the approaching showers and thus ignoring me as I approached to get great views.

The most interesting bird was a Little Egret on the rocky shoreline south of Croyde Bay. Apparently a number live in the estuary to the south.

Stonechats and Wheatear's were easily observed on Baggy Point.

And not forgetting the Oystercatchers which were abundant.

The scenery was lovely with the best being Morte Point north of Wollacombe. The paths to the point are easy and my Bon Bon enjoyed the bracing winds and crashing waves at the rocky point.

The award for the most helpful birds goes to the gulls and corvids who were using our caravan roof as a landing pad. The caravan was lovely (and cheap) once we'd built the Bonnie barricades, keeping her out of the kitchen area and away from the front door.

Wollacombe area is smashing.. Even saw 30 odd Red Deer in a small herd on the way home across the edge of Exmoor.

Paul.

Your Avatar doesn't open on my PC here, so can't see the chubby cheeks. My commiserations on having to get anywhere near the M6 Junction 10. My daughter lives in devon I live in Cheshire, never the two shall meet if the M5 and M6 are playing up. Two weeks ago she left Exeter and after 5 hours she hadn't arrived, so I gave her a bell she had just got North of Bristol. But Devon is brilliant for Buzzards, I don't see many on my patch, except for "lonely" my one at work.
