Hi all. This is my first time on any type of forum so hope I am doing it right. I know its a long shot but I am trying to identify a bird I heard in Adeje Pueblo in Tenerife. This is the small town up in the hills, not the holiday resort at the beach. I never saw the bird as it only seemed to cry at night and made a call like weegy weegy weegy. Dont laugh, I am not pulling your leg. My parents live in Adeje and say they hear it most nights but have never seen it. It almost sounded like a cartoon character calling out, sort of donald ducky. Any ideas anyone? Any comments or suggestions would be great.
Thanks
ymac

Could be way off the mark here, but what about a seabird coming to land at night - Cory's Shearwater, Bulwer's Petrel something like that.

Thanks Nick, Spot on. My friend says it sounds like a bird impersonating Punch and Judy, and she's right!.Thanks for your help.

I found this useful, staying inland in a villa in Gran Canaria inland within a canyon, I only heard these calls in the night and struggled to explain what I was hearing, now having heard the recording of the Cory’s Shearwater it was spot on. So thanks to the people who contributed
