went to eyebrook resevoir today and among the 15+ yellow wags on the bank was this one that seemed to have a grey back neck and crown

am assuming its a female of some race of yellow wag but not sure which have a grey back

sorry for the poor photos but they was all my friend could take before the bird flew out of sight along the bank

Just looks like a normal yellow wag to me, then again I must get confused a lot as a simple straight forward white/pied i got wrong on an earlier thread!

Have been quite a few 'grey' yellow wag variants at ebr over the years...this seems a particularly striking individual....i will look out for it tomorrow. Am guessing it was skulking around in the grasses at north end of reservoir?

ps...rimmer...did you get any water pipits today at ebr?....there were 4 possibly 5 playing 'hide n seek' at north end yesterday...one a real stunner!

didnt see any waterpipits but the g-w teal was showing well

and yes was in the grass near a line of trees/bushes that go from road to res ion the northeast side

Very interesting bird. Hard to judge from these pics but citrine x yellow hybrid is one choise and eastern yw is another.
