Hi everyone.

Im trying to compile a personal database for recording the ringing/ re-trapping of birds in the local area.

I have been in touch with a local "trainer" and am thinking of becoming a trainee with him.
My main interest in the ringing of birds is in population and movements of garden birds such as greenfinch and great tits.

Can someone tell me (or point me in the direction of) the birds you would use sizes AA, A, B (etc) size rings that you would expect to ring.

Any help would be greatfully received.

Regards,
Rob

Hi Rob
When you sign up as a trainee, you will be sent a copy The Ringer's Manual, which is published by the BTO. This includes a whole load of vital information about ringing and has a section on the ring sizes needed for each species. Good luck with it, its a great hobby to get in to.

get in touch with the BTO, you may not get access to the ringers section of their web site where all the info is but i am sure if you email them they will send you all the relevant info. if your thinking of becoming a ringer it wont happen overnight, it takes a few years before you will ring alone but very rewarding learning curve.

life is too short to learn all we need to know, go for it
