Two bullfinch males with one female, why? (1 Viewer)

There used to be only one male earlier in the year but recently another one has shown up.

They now always come to the feeder as a threesome. Been 2-3 weeks now. The males take it in turns to eat, then they chase eachother around while the female eats.

It seems more like play than actual fighting. I assumed they must be non-monogamous, but Ive since read that bullfinches pair for life so now I'm completely stumped. Might it have something to do with the fact both the males have developed foot warts and now have trouble perching on things?

FYI I clean my bird feeder every time I refill it every 1/2 weeks so I do my best to make sure it's not a spreading site for the foot warts.

Hi KC, thanks for the response and the warm welcome :)

A juvenile has shown up with them today! Must be a rare case of polyamory haha
