twist up eye cups (1 Viewer)

Hi, i was using my 8x43 hawke ed,s and noticed that with the eye cups pushed all the way in, i could see a shadow of my eyes or brows ! it was a dark circle in both lenses.
When i pull out the eye cups the shadow goes ! which is good ! but i thought this eye cup pull out system was if you wear glasses ? I dont wear glasses so?
Prob me got it round wrong way but thought i would ask you lot !
Thanks
LW.

Eye cups are fun toys, but also try to close them when done, dirt collects inside. There is usually a rain guard as well. This is good for keeping junk in the woods and crummbs from lunch falling in there.

If it has click stops on the eye cups, try all of them, glasses or not, you will find one works best.

You do have it the wrong way around.

You are trying to get your eye's pupil coincident with the exit pupil of the binocular. That exit pupil is the eye relief distance from the back of the eyepiece lens.

So if you wear glasses you use the bins with the eyecups down to compensate for the extra distance your eyes are behind your eyeglasses.

If you don't wear eyeglasses you twist up the eyecups to space off your eyes by the right (eye relief) distance. The eyecups then give you something to brace your brows (or other bits of your face) against so the bins don't "float".

Of course given the variation in human faces (deep set eyes, for example) and how close fitting glasses are different folks need different amounts of eye relief and different eyecup settings.

So you experiment until you get the amount that works best for you. You want a setting that lets you see the whole field (or as much of the field as you can) without "vignetting" (those "blackouts" or "black circles").

So in your case twist up the eyecups. And see how that works.
