Hello fellow birders

I am holidaying for a week right next to this parc and so
Intend to make several visits birdwatching
I hope to see hoopoes rollers bee eaters flamingo golden oriole
Could anyone tell me what the likelihood is?
What am I more likely to see in October and has anyone been there
Thanks

Hello,
welcome on BF.
Can't be of much help - never been there, but you might consider posting your request here:
Home > Forums > Your Local Patch > Europe & Rest of the World Patches > Europe > Spain including the Canary & Balearic Isles (or ask a mod to move your post)

You'll probably get more replies
Cheers,
Max

Hi and welcome from me too.
Mike Montier, who starts and maintains the annual Mallorca threads on here, lives in the Mondrago area I believe.
Let's hope he sees your question: if not, you could try PM'ing him. See this thread.

Hi Carygrant, yes, I live right next to Parc Mondragó and go there most days. Many of the birds you want will have gone sadly especially Bee-eaters and Golden orioles. Flamingos can be seen at Salobrar de Campos which is about 20mins drive away. If you don't have a car I am happy to take you there as I go at least once a week. There should be about 500 birds there. Rollers only pass through on migration although there may be one around the Island somewhere for a couple of days in October but they are never easy. Hoopoes on the other hand are plentiful and they are resident so can be seen all year round. Any other birds you need just let me know. I have been to Mondragó this afternoon and it is very quiet. Expect Kingfisher, Sardinian warbler, Balearic warbler, Blackcap, Firecrest, Cirl bunting, Audouin's gull, Shag, Scop's, Long-eared and Barn owl. Mike

Thanks Mike
I am so pleased I posted on here. I can't believe
How quickly i got an answer and from someone
Who visited the parc this afternoon
We would love to take you up on your offer of a
Lift to see flamingos. That is extremely kind of you
It would be great to meet you being so knowledgable

Got wifi sorted for the week now too
What a coincidence your in laws staying here recently lol
Beautiful cove here
Seen cormorant pigeons and two unidentified birds so far
One like our great tit and the other had a black stripe through eye and a flash of yellow on nape
Size of our warblers
We are off to Mandrago tomoz on the bus
Will report back what we see
Bye for now Mike

That's great. Mondragó is very busy with beach-goers at the moment but there are two places you could go. At the back of the first beach there is a torrent, some water looking like a river. You can follow this and turn off up the hill and away from the crowds. You could also walk past the first beach on towards the second beach and up some steps which will take you into some woodlands and some good birds there like Crossbills, Firecrest, Chaffinch, Serin and Sardinian warblers. Views from the rocks will produce Audouin's gull,Shag, Shearwaters and there may be a Blue Rock Thrush hanging around the rocks. Good luck and I will phone you to arrange to pick you up and go to Salobrar de Campos. Mike

Thanks for that Mike
We have a map of sorts but it shows three beaches and two torrents
Do you mean to follow the Font de n'alis water?
I see theres an information centre beside the main carpark and we are hoping thats where the bus drops us
Whatever we see it will be an adventure so thanks again and looking forward to meeting you and the flamingos :)

Yes, Font de n'alis, or go to the next beach and there is a larger and longer torrent. I hope the information centre helps, they have maps and books etc. Good luck, Mike

Did three of the mapped walks
Excellent sightings several times of Sardinian Warbler and Firecrest
Sadly no crossbills nor blue rock thrush but we did also see serin, robin, chaffinch, blackbird, great tit, coot, wren, a pair of stonechats and a swallowtail butterfly oh and audouins gull x1
We loved it. Beautiful setting and easy access
