Thoughts please on canon 8x20 IS binoculars (1 Viewer)

Thinking of buying these for a compactish travel binocular. I have read to positive reviews and comments on these from a few years ago.

Has anyone got any views about them now they'd like to share pls?

Cheers G

I went with 16xz42 binoculars and they are medium size and weigh 22 ounces. With an IS binocular I would want 12x or little point in buying them. My 10x25 Swarvo Pocket Mountain binocular are fine without image stabilization needed. Without IS a 12x is the most I can manage without much difficulty.

IS is still an advantage even at 8x magnification, and you will still realize at least 35% better resolution with a 8x20 IS binocular versus a 8x20 traditional binocular because at 8x you are still shaking. An IS binocular allows you to relax and enjoy the much steadier view. Everybody is different, but I have difficulty holding a 10x steady. The Canon 8x20 IS is an excellent IS binocular and one of the smallest around, and probably it's only weak point is its smallish 6.6 degree FOV. They look a little plastickey, and they are not waterproof, but actually they pretty durable. They use the newer lens shift IS system and at 8x the image is rock solid and the optics are very good. Not only that, but they are surprisingly bright in the daytime for their small EP. I highly recommend them.
