Hi, I'm new from Middle TN. My question is can thistle seed go bad? I've had two feeders out & no birds, I just moved & using the thistle seed that I had (probably a yr old) I had it in a tin canister. Thanks in advance.:hi:

Hi irishx3, yes, Nyger thistle has a high oil content and can go rancid if not kept frozen...I would recommend tossing it since Goldfinch will not touch it once this happens... Some fresh seed and a clean feeder should do the trick, Good luck to you!

Wow, thanks for all of this. I just bought thistle seed and the feeder is used but the left over seed may not get put into my feeder for many months. I'll need to find something to store it in and freeze it.

You betcha...and the birds detect that rather quickly hence no feeders. Did you get any visitors after using fresh seed?
